This is a proposal for an idea that should be implemented. If the interest
generated from this page is high enough then some resources will be put
towards building the system to create an initial project. If results look
promising then outside help may be aquired. To express an interest in this

Objective:
To make an open-source grading system that will be freely available
to the public/private school systems.
Who should benefit and use the system:
All students, faculty, and staff will have logins in order to access
information related to themselves. This will allow teachers to post
documents that have been handed out in class as well as send notes to
groups of kids as well as their parents if they wish to be involved.
What features should/might exist:
Note: This is only a rough outline.
Common to all logins:
Basic contact list support.
Name
(email)
(addr)
(phone)
Everything in ()'s means that a person can disable viewing of
those fields for the common directory Teachers/Faculty will still
have access to them for contact reasons.
Messaging support
every person with an account will be able to send/recieve text messages
this will optionally forward to their stored email address
This feature protects anonymous messages from being sent as you have to be logged in to use the system
This also keeps the recipients address hidden as only a name is shown.
Student/Parent Login:
Check for notes sent from teacher
Check status on grades
Submit questions to teachers
Graduate Login:
Last for a specified amount of years after a student has graduated
Access to grade transcripts
Can send messages to people that were in the same years as each other.
Teacher Login:
Grade tracking abilities
Reports/notes to be sent to children/parents
Classwide documents that can be enabled/disabled per group of students
"Happy"/"Nasty" grams that will be sent to children/parents
